List of State Boards that cancelled their Class XII exam

After the announcement of the cancellation of the CBSE Class XII exams on 1st June’21 by the GOI, many state boards have also decided to scrape the HSC/12th exam for the academic year 2020-2021. While cancelling the Central Board of Secondary Education was a decision made by the Central Government, the PM of India, Narendra Modi advised the state govt. to take a united and uniform approach for the state boards.

With the pandemic still wreaking havoc in many parts of the country, students via Twitter have urged the PM to cancel the HSC exams. Where CICSE and CBSE class 12 exams have been cancelled, students are given the provision to appear for the same at a later date if they are not happy with the marks allotted to them through previous results.

This has led the students of state boards to extend their voice of reason to the state govt and education union ministry. Although, each state can independently decide the best course of actions for their students, however, the central govt has asked the states to take a uniform approach to avoid any clashes or disparity.

However, the criteria on which the students will be graded are yet to be finalised. Various alternatives have been suggested but the Union of Education Ministry is taking its time to formulate the final version. Simultaneously, the Supreme Court is set to announce its judgement on this issue on 3rd June’21.

The popular models suggested to grade the students of class XII are:

  • 1. Conduct exams only for the major subjects.
  • 2. Conduct the XII Boards exam twice a year
  • 3. Analyse and take into account the result of the students for the last 3 three that is for class 9, 10 & 11.

One of the first state to cancel the HSC exam for the state board is Gujarat. Where many other state boards have expressed their agreement for the cancellation of the HSC 12th exam, there remains a concern as not to impact the lives of the students and their futures. Hence, it became imperative that experts and administrators sit down to discuss the best way forward for the youth and the nation in these testing times.
