NEET PG 2021: Five major changes in the Exam Pattern

The National Boards of Examination has already announced the release of the NEET PG 2021 application form along with the brochure with the details of the changes in the NEET PG 2021 exam pattern and timings. Read more to find out.

The National Boards of Examinations (NBE) has already begun its application process online on its official website for the NEET PG 2021 exam. The official announcement was made available on 23rd February and the online application for the NEET PG 2021 exam will be available till 15th March 2021 (11:55 PM).

Conducted by NBE, NEET PG is the national level examination for the students to pursue a postgraduate degree in medicine, surgery and other medical & diploma courses. Below are the 5 major changes in the NEET PG exam pattern introduced by NBE as per the official information brochure:

1. Application Fee

As per the official brochure, the examination fee for the NEET PG exam has been revised and updated for the year 2021.

2. Number of NEET PG 2021 Exam Centres

The number of seats for the NEET PG 2021 exam has been increased to give students more options to choose the nearby cities for easy access and fewer hassles of transportation.

3. Number of total questions reduced for NEET PG 2021

The significant change for the NEET PG 2021 exam is the reduction of the total number of questions. This has also resulted in a reduction in the total number of marks that will be obtained by the students.

The marking scheme for the NEET PG 2021 is:

  • Correct Answer: +4
  • Wrong Answer: -1
  • Unanswered/Unattempted: 0

4. Revised timing for NEET PG 2021 exams

The timing of the exam has been rescheduled to accommodate more number of centres to be functional. As per the official notice, the exam is to be conducted from 2 PM to 05:30 PM. Earlier the timing was from 03:30 PM to 7 PM.

5. Tie-Breaker for NEET PG 2021

If two or more candidates obtain the same score in the NEET PG 2021 exam, the merit position of candidates will be decided by four tie-breaking criteria factors, as per the NBA. Earlier, these candidates were judged based on eight such factors. These four factors are more number of correct responses, less number of negative responses, older candidates and higher aggregate marks (in percentage).

These 5 changes are welcoming news for most of the students and give them a better chance to perform at this crucial exam improving their chances of getting placed in a better college to pursue post-grad.
