Here's what you need to know about NEET 2022

One of India's biggest entrance exams for the medical and other medical-related courses that are offered across the country is the NEET-UG examination. The entrance exam is conducted through paper and pen mode by the National Testing Agency (NTA). In recent years, the NEET-UG exam has undergone a lot of changes in its pattern and process. There are talks regarding the NEET 2022 examination, to be conducted twice a year to increase the possibility of options to the students by the board authorities. Based on the reports, NEET 2022 is likely to be conducted in June 2022, and the notification regarding the same shall be announced in March 2022.

Due to the pandemic, notifications for the NEET-UG examination were released during October, and exams were conducted in May. The schedule for the NEET-UG examination was deferred during the time of the pandemic, however, NEET 2022 will be conducted as per the normal academic calendar. Beyond all the preparation towards the NEET 2022, the schedule is completely dependent on the graph of Covid-19.

Who can take up the NEET-UG exam?

There are a set of parameters that are to be fulfilled by the candidates before applying for the medical entrance exam. Some guidelines are set by the board to qualify for the exam, known as Eligibility criteria for NEET 2022. It includes the passing percentage, nationality of the candidate, maximum and minimum age limit, number of attempts, and many others. Students must go through the eligibility criteria, before the process of registration. Candidates Eligible for NEET 2022:

  • Candidates providing the complete information through the registration and completing the registration process are eligible for NEET 2022.
  • Citizens of India, Non-residents Indians (NRI’s), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO’s), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI’s), and also the foreign nationals for NEET 2022.
  • Students aspiring to study NEET in India or any other foreign countries

Eligibility Criteria - Parameters

Qualifying Exam for NEET 2022 Candidates should have passed 10+2 with science subjects as background that includes Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognized university.
Age Criteria
  • Candidates must have completed 17 years as of December 31, 2022.
  • The Supreme Court is yet to make the judgment on the upper age limit for medical aspirants
Marks The overall aggregate for different categories is mentioned below:
  • UR - 50%
  • OBC/ SC/ ST - 40%
  • PWD - 45%
The aggregate marks apply for science subjects only, i.e. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Nationality Indian Citizens, NRI’s, OCI’s, PIO’s and other foreign nationals are eligible to apply
Number of maximum attempts As of now, there are no restrictions on the maximum number of attempts for the NEET-UG examination.

NEET 2022 Eligibility Criteria - Qualifying Codes

During the process of registration and filling out the application form, candidates are asked to select the NEET 2022 qualification codes. Below are the details regarding the NEET qualification codes:

Code 1: Candidates who have appeared for the 12th board exams, and waiting for the results shall choose this code. However, by the time of counseling and the admission process, the results would have arrived, based on the aggregate marks they shall be eligible for the course.

Code 2:Candidates who are studying higher secondary education or taking up ISCE that is equivalent to the 12th examination and comes to post 12 years shall use this code. As per NCERT, the last two years of study must consist of science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as their main subjects and English as their core subjects. Candidates who have qualified 12th exam and have not pursued any other course after class 12th shall have to choose this code.

Code 3: Candidates who have completed the pre-degree examination from a recognized university/ board with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/ Biotechnology shall use this code. The course must include practicals in science subjects, and the candidates from the 12th class completed from the state board shall also use this code.

Code 4: For the candidates who have completed pre-medical examination post the higher secondary examination with major subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English must have chosen this code. It should include practical tests for the above-mentioned subjects and English as their compulsory subject.

Code 5: For the candidates who are already pursuing a three-year degree course from a recognized university with science subjects would and would have qualified the practical tests in the first year will choose this code. Candidates should have qualified for the university exam with these subjects as their core subjects along with English.

Code 6: Candidates who have the BSc examination from a recognized university with two of the following subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology shall choose this code during the process of application. Along with this, they must have also qualified their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.

Code 7: For the candidates who have passed any other equivalent subjects that comprise Physics, Chemistry and Biology along with practical subjects which are found to be equivalent to the subjects of Indian Universities or Indian Board must choose this code. This code is for foreign medical aspirants who have completed the qualifying examination.

NEET 2022 Eligibility Criteria- Age Limit

To appear for the NEET 2022 examination, aspirants who are concerned regarding the age limit. The minimum age of the medical aspirant at the time of admission must be 17 years on or before Dec 31, 2022.

Note: The decision regarding the upper age limit is still held in the supreme court and the final judgment is yet to be passed. Considering the pending judgment, students do not have any upper age limit criteria to apply for NEET 2022.

NEET 2022 Eligibility Criteria- Number of attempts

Based on the NEET Eligibility criteria, the board authorities have removed the maximum number of attempts for the NEET-UG examination. Candidates who are aspiring to enter the field of medicine can appear any number of times without being restricted to several attempts.

NEET 2022 Eligibility Criteria are nothing but the set of guidelines for the medical aspirants to qualify for the medical stream before applying for the NEET-UG entrance exam.
